Designing a Dialogue Between Eras
Commissioned by the Cultural Centre of the City of Liège, this project marked my first opportunity to work on a large-scale public commission. The objective was to create the main poster for an exhibition exploring the evolution of design, from its historical foundations to its possible future.
My approach was to reduce this broad theme to one simple and immediate visual idea. I selected two chairs from different periods and placed them side by side, creating a direct contrast between past and present. Rather than illustrating the exhibition literally, the composition invites the viewer to compare forms, materials and ways of thinking across time.
The creative process focused on finding the right balance between clarity and visual impact. Through image research, composition tests and typographic exploration, I developed a poster capable of communicating the exhibition’s concept at first glance while remaining open to interpretation. The final design transforms two familiar objects into a visual conversation about how design evolves, responds to society and continues to shape the future.
